I hated summer for a long time.

I grew up with bullying as a backdrop, my body an easy target. Too much of this, not enough of that. Every summer reminded me that I didn't fit into the box expected of me. So I hid. I made myself small. As if my body, in order to exist, had to apologize first.
And then one day, I realized that I wasn't born to make myself bearable in the eyes of others. That my body had never been the problem, but rather the way people looked at it. I began to live for myself, to reconcile myself with every inch of skin, every curve, every mark.
